South River
Mary E. Salatowski age 93 of South River passed away peacefully on Saturday August 9, 2014 at Reformed Church Home, Old Bridge. Born in Perth Amboy, she grew up in Woodbridge and lived there until her marriage in 1946 when she moved to South River. During World War II, she honorably served as an air-raid warden and a “Rosie the Riveter” worker. Upon marrying Chester Salatowski, she proudly and generously devoted her energy and talents to her chosen career as a homemaker and mother. For years, she also enjoyed a successful record as an Avon sales representative. Mrs. Salatowski was a communicant of Saint Mary of Ostrabrama R. C. Church in South River where she was a member of the Rosary Society.

Mrs. Salatowski was predeceased by her husband Chester Salatowski in 1985 as well as her parents Paul and Mary Leili Schimpf, her two sisters Helen Demchik and Rose Bartus and four brothers Joseph, Paul, John and Frank Schimpf. Surviving are her daughter and son in law Carol and Ronald Palmquist of Princeton and her grandson and his wife Michael and Nicole Palmquist of Stockton, her granddaughter Maria Palmquist of Princeton, her great-granddaughter Alexandrea, her sister Emma Lane of Barnegat and her brothers George Schimpf of Toms River and Charles Schimpf of Woodbridge.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday 10:30am from the Maliszewski Funeral Home 218 Whitehead Avenue South River followed by a 11am mass at Saint Mary of Ostrabrama R. C. Church in South River with burial to follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Monday from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Saint Mary of Ostrabrama R. C. Church 30 Jackson Street, South River N.J. 08882, where Mrs. Salatowski was a long-time parishioner or to EWTN, the Global Catholic Network which provided her with many inspirational programs as well as the ability to “attend” Mass and recite the rosary (EWTN, 5817 Old Leeds Road, Irondale, AL 35210.)
